What's Happening in Greenwich This Weekend

GREENWICH, Conn. – This weekend in Greenwich check out a discussion of slavery, a 5K charity run, egg hunts and Earth Day Month kickoff at Greenwich Point. Here are some of the other events planned for the weekend in Greenwich:

Friday, March 23

• Free exhibit tours at Bruce Museum – Exhibit tours are free with price of admission on Fridays at the Bruce Museum from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m.; call 203-869-6786 for more information.

• Slavery Discussion – Joseph McGill Jr., a Civil war re-enactor, will speak on slavery in Connecticut and its connection with Greenwich history; 7 to 8:30 p.m.; Greenwich Historical Society Bush Holley House; free.

• Screening of “Listen to Your Heart” – The Greenwich Library feature Friends Friday Night Film was written and by Greenwich resident Kent Moran, who also acts in the film. He will appear onstage to share information about the film, which was partially shot in Greenwich. It tells the tale of a singer/songwriter who falls in love with a girl who is unable to hear the music she inspires him to write; 8 p.m., Greenwich Library Cole Auditorium; free.

• Classical Concert at St. Catherine of Siena Church – Soprano Jennifer Aylmer and bass-baritone Mark Kaczmarczyk perform at 4 Riverside Ave.; $20 general admission; $10 students.

Saturday, March 24

• Selectmen’s Nominations Advisory Commission Workshop – The board will meet at Town Hall Meeting Room at 9 a.m.

• Ninth Annual Greenwich Invitational Spring Crew Regatta – The invitational includes at 1,000-meter course; Greenwich Harbor; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; call 203-661-4033 for more information.

• 5K “Run for Uganda Girls” – Convent of the Sacred Heart will hold a 5K to benefit a school for girls in Uganda; $20; registration begins at 9:30 a.m., race begins at 10 a.m.; 1177 King St. in Greenwich.

• Greenwich Lions Club Egg Hunt – The club sponsors an egg hunt fundraiser at 10:30 a.m.; Roger Sherman Baldwin Park; $10.

• Banksville Egg Hunt – Banksville Community House hosts an Easter egg hunt, including plant and bake sale; 12 Banksville Road; 1 p.m.; free.

• Author Talk at Perrot Library – Karen Tack, author of “Cupcakes, Cookies & Pie, Oh My!” at 90 Sound Beach Ave.; 2 p.m.; free.  

• Yoga for Adults and Kids – Adults can enjoy hot spa yoga – a combination of yoga, Thai massage and aromatherapy – while kids do fun yoga games and poses; 4 p.m.; $40; Mantra Mind Body Studio, 1455 E. Putnam Ave.; call 203-990-0500 for more information.

• Soloist Recital – The award-winning soprano Yvonne Cheng performs at Greenwich Library Cole Auditorium; $15, $10.

Sunday, March 25

• Piccolo Trumpeter Dominic Derasse – At Round Hill Community Church, Derasse will perform Baroque works with organ during the 10 a.m. worship service. The piccolo trumpet is pitched an octave above the normal B-flat trumpet and is featured in Baroque music; free.

• Earth Day Month Kickoff – Bruce Museum and the town of Greenwich celebrate the start of Earth Day Month in Greenwich; 1:30 to 3 p.m.; Innis Arden Cottage at Greenwich Point; free.

• Grief and Loss Support Group – Support group for people who are grieving from a loss teaches coping skills; facilitated by bereavement counselor Paige Stetson; 2 p.m.; 237 Taconic Road in Greenwich; free.

• Open Mic and Poetry Reading – Listen to accomplished poets read some of their work, answer questions and speak informally about poetry; every Sunday from 3 – 5 p.m.; Arcadia Café, Old Greenwich; call 203-637-8766 for more information.
