What's Happening in Greenwich This Week

GREENWICH, Conn. - Here’s a look at events happening around Greenwich this week, including government meetings and community happenings. See our events page for more listings:

Monday, April 9

• You can get free tax assistance from VITA volunteers at the Greenwich Library, 101 W. Putnam Ave., from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

• Juggler and mime Roger the Jester will perform at the Byram Shubert Library, 21 Mead Ave., Greenwich, from 11 a.m. to noon. 

• Tai chi for kids will be held with Wudang Tai Chai of Stamford at the Byram Shubert Library, 21 Mead Ave., from 3 to 4 p.m.

• A vacation movie, "Puss in Boots," will be shown at the Cos Cob Library, 5 Sinawoy Road, at 4 p.m.

 • "Greenwich Lost & Preserved," an exhibit of contemporary and vintage photographs, artifacts and paintings, is under way all week at the Bruce Museum, 1 Museum Drive. Admission is $6 and $7.

Tuesday, April 10

• Residents interested in volunteering to shelve books will receive training at the Greenwich Library, 101 W. Putnam Ave., from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

• The illustrations of Fred Marcellino will come alive as kids listen and marvel at the pages of some favorite books, including "Puss in Boots" and "I, Crocodile." At 4 p.m., Tuesdays from April 10 to May 15 at Stamford Museum & Nature Center, 39 Scofield Town Road, Stamford.

• Sit'n Stitch Knitting/Crocheting Group meets from 1 to 3 p.m., at Cos Cob Library, 5 Sinawoy Road, Greenwich.

• The YWCA presents Yumi Kuwana, an investment adviser and mother of three, who will discuss how to raise well-adjusted and globally minded children. From 6 to 9 p.m., at Greenwich Library, 101 W. Putnam Ave.

Wednesday, April 11

• The Career Coach will offer computer classes in Excel at the Greenwich Library, 101 W. Putnam Ave. The Level 1 class is from 10 a.m. to noon, and the Level 2 class is from 1 to 3 p.m. The Career Coach will be parked outside the library's West Putnam Avenue entrance. Seating is limited to 10 and is first-come, first-seated. No registration. Signup begins 30 minutes before program at the West Putnam Avenue interior entrance of the library.

• Family Flicks presents the award-winning animated hit "Hugo" from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Cole Auditorium at Greenwich Library, 101 W. Putnam Ave.

• The Avon Theatre screens "Carol Channing: Larger than Life," a documentary about legendary, 90-year-old performer Carol Channing, who starred in some of the biggest hits on Broadway, including "Hello, Dolly." After the screening, director/writer/producer Dori Berinstein will answer questions from the audience. Tickets are $6 to $11. For more information, visit www.avontheatre.org. • Greenwich's Historic District Commission meets at 7 p.m. in the Cone Room, Greenwich Town Hall, 101 Field Point Road.

Thursday, March 29

• "Rango," featuring Johnny Depp, will be shown from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Cos Cob Library, 5 Sinawoy Road, Greenwich. It's the wild west and Rango, an ordinary chameleon, ends up in the lawless town of Dirt, an outpost desperately in need of a new sheriff. Rated PG. 

• Get hands-on assistance with Microsoft applications, Internet searching, email, OverDrive support for audio books and eBooks and more during a one-hour, drop-in computer lab from 3 to 4 p.m., at the Greenwich Library, 101 W. Putnam Ave.

• Gardening in with Mary Jo Bridge: Growing Seeds and Improving Your Soil. Tips on how to get the garden going again after a dormant winter. From 4 to 5 p.m. at Byram Shubert Library 21 Mead Ave.

• Bunnies, Eggs, and Earth Day Bedtime Stories/Craft: Celebrate the season with fun stories about bunnies, eggs, and our Earth with Judy Berg. Then make a craft with Miss Barbara in the community room and enjoy an egg hunt in the library. From 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. at the Cos Cob Library, 5 Sinawoy Road, Greenwich.

• Meet the Author: Linda Urbach. Reception and book signing from 6 to 7 p.m. Urbach will speak about her book, "Madame Bovary's Daughter," at 7 p.m. Byram Shubert Library 21 Mead Ave.
