Melting Snow Causes Estimated 100,000 Gallons Of Sewage To SpiIl In Hudson The Department of Environmental Conservation reported that a wet weather event (melting snow) caused a major sewage spill Sunday in the Albany area that could impact Hudson Valley residents. An estimated 100,000 gallons of untreated sewage flowed into the Hudson for over an hour on March 19 at approximately 2:15 p.m., according to the DEC. Some communities in the Hudson Valley use water from the Hudson as a backup water supply, according to the agency. Melting snow apparently caused the event, with the excess running water causing the overflow.
