Greenwich Votes GOP for President, U.S. Senate

GREENWICH, Conn. – Update 11 a.m.: Absentee ballots have been counted in Greenwich and all vote totals are now official. Absentee votes did not change the outcome of any of the local races in town, but absentee ballots gave Rep. Jim Himes more votes than Steve Obsitnik, making him the only Democrat to win a majority in Greenwich.

Rep. Himes added 1,880 absentee votes to Obsitnik's 1,640, giving Himes a 14,433-14,021 edge in Greenwich. Unofficial results on Tuesday night had Obsitnik in the lead in Greenwich.

Gov. Romney added 2,089 absentee votes, while overall winner President Obama added 1,941 in Greenwich. Linda McMahon added 2,171 absentee votes in the U.S. Senate race, while overall winner Chris Murphy added 1,836 absentee votes.


President Barack Obama was re-elected to a second term in office, but Greenwich voted Tuesday for former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney - 14,368 to 11,137, according to unofficial results from the Greenwich Registrar of Voters.

About 3,000 absentee ballots across the 19 voting districts in Greenwich will be added to the final tally on Wednesday, officials said.

Democrat Jim Himes won his third term to the U.S. House of Representatives, but Republican challenger Steve Obsitnik took more votes in Greenwich , 12,381 to 11,719, according to unofficial results.

Democrat Chris Murphy came away victorious in the hotly contested U.S. Senate race, but Republican and Greenwich resident Linda McMahon was favored in Greenwich, 14,050 to 10,814, according to unofficial results.
