William Pollock, 55, of Lester Street, was initially conscious and alert after the 5:30 p.m. crash, but he quickly became unresponsive and was pronounced dead at Bridgeport Hospital, police said.

The crash occurred just north of Exit 8 in the southbound lanes.

A box truck was traveling in the right lane when Pollock’s 1996 Ford Ranger struck it from behind, getting entangled with the first truck, police said.

The driver pulled off to the shoulder, dragging Pollock’s truck, police said.

Once stopped, Pollock was able to get out of his truck, but he became unresponsive within minutes, state police said.

The other driver was not injured.

The case remains under investigation.
