Matthew Smith, of Milford, was arrested around 11:30 p.m. Monday following an hours-long stand-off, said Officer Joseph Dempsey, the spokesman the Milford Police.

The incident unfolded around 3:15 a.m. Monday when the woman went to the Milford Police Department to report a past domestic violence incident which had occurred at a Falmouth Street home.

The woman told police Smith had threatened he was going to kill her, burn down her family’s home, kill any future children she may have, amongst other similar statements, Dempsey said.

She also told police that Smith had a knife and threatened to slice her with it, and at one point struck her in the face/ eye area with a closed fist.

Police were also told that Smith may be in possession of an unregistered firearm.

When officers responded to the home and attempted to make contact with Smith he refused to respond to numerous attempts to get him to exit the home and a perimeter was established in the area.

Smith’s actions led to the Regional Special Response Team (SRT) being called to the scene, as well as, the Milford Police Department’s Small Unmanned Aircraft and Robot units.

After exhausting other efforts and waiting several hours for Smith to respond, it was determined the SRT team would enter the home and make contact with Smith inside of the residence. After knocking the door open, the SRT team nabbed Smith, who then surrendered himself willingly.

Smith was charged with disorderly conduct, assault, threatening and interfering with an officer.

He is being held on a $25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 27.
