ID Released For Woman Struck, Killed By Truck In Hit-Run Route 8/25 Crash

State police have released the identity of a Bridgeport woman who was struck and killed by a hit-and-run dump truck driver as she attempted to cross Route 8/25.

Maria Mendoza-Robles, 54, was struck and killed around 8 p.m. Thursday in the southbound lane near Exit 5 in Bridgeport, said the Connecticut State Police. 

Troop G had received numerous 911 calls saying a woman was attempting to cross the highway right before the accident occurred, they added.

The vehicle, described as being a large tri-axle truck, with a red or orange motor unit and a gray dump bed, fled southbound on the highway, state police said.

Mendoza-Robles was standing in the median when she walked into the left center lane where the truck was traveling, state police added.

She was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The case is under investigation and anyone with information regarding the truck is asked to call State Police Troop G at 203-696-2500.
