Greenwich Selectman Marzullo Arrested On Shoplifting Charge At Outlets

GREENWICH, Conn. — Greenwich Selectman Drew Marzullo, a Democrat who is seeking re-election to the town board, has been arrested on a misdemeanor shoplifting charge from an incident at an outlet mall in Clinton, according to Greenwich Time.

Marzullo, 46, was arrested Aug. 26 and charged with fifth-degree larceny. He is accused of stealing $486 in items from Skechers and $184 in merchandise from J. Crew at Clinton Crossing Premium Outlet Stores, Greenwich Time said.

Police were called by mall security, Greenwich Time said.

Upon learning of the charges against Marzullo, the Executive Committee of the Greenwich Democratic Town Committee met Friday.

“We are saddened to learn of the charges against Selectman Drew Marzullo," the committee said in a statement. "No one on the Executive Committee of the Greenwich Democratic Town Committee had knowledge of the incident prior to learning about it from the press reports published Thursday night, September 21.

"Regardless of Drew’s guilt or innocence in the alleged incident, the Executive Committee is disappointed that he did not communicate to any member of Executive Committee about this concerning situation.

"The Executive Committee understands that Drew is taking the weekend to consider his options. Per Connecticut statute, decisions about remaining on the ballot once nominated are solely at the discretion of the candidate. During this time we are respecting his privacy.”

Marzullo, who seeking his fifth term on the town's Board of Selectmen, has served as selectman since 2009. He announced in spring that he exploring a run for lieutenant governor and has a website set up for that campaign.

He worked as a paramedic in Bridgeport and Greenwich for over two decades and served two terms as a member of the Representative Town Meeting in Greenwich. 

He received his State of Connecticut Paramedic License in 1994, after attending Northeastern University and graduating from Greenwich High School. 

Marzullo was released on $5,000 bond for a Sept. 26 court appearance.
