George G. Oxer, 95, Greenwich Native, Worked For Electrolux

BYRAM, Conn. - George G. Oxer of Byram, formerly of Greenwich, died Tuesday, Feb. 4. He was 95.

Oxer was born Oct. 10, 1918, in Greenwich, to William Ritch Oxer and Sarah Russell Oxer. He was a 10th generation Greenwich native. He attended Byram School and graduated from Greenwich High School, Class of 1937.

He served as a coxswain and gunner in the U.S. Navy armed guard from 1943 to 1945 and trained at Brooklyn and Lido Beach, N.Y. He worked for Electrolux Corp. for 44 years, retiring in 1985 as a supervisor of production control. From 1986 to 1987, he served as a consultant to Electrolux in Bristol, Va. He joined the Washington Engine & Hose Co., No. 4 Inc., Port Chester Fire Department in 1946.

Oxer is survived by his children, Robert G. Oxer (Patricia DeYulio) of Darien, William P. Oxer (Christina Bunk) of Greenwich and George "Rusty" Oxer (Barbara Brennan) of Cos Cob; and 12 grandchildren and four great-granddaughters. He was predeceased by his parents; and siblings, Lester, Lillian Cameron, William Jr. (Buddy), Helen Banks Frey, Grace Basso and Doris Staby.

Calling hours are from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, at the Craft Memorial Funeral Home Inc. , 40 Leicester St., Port Chester. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 7, at Sacred Heart Church, 95 Henry St., Greenwich. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Greenwich.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Washington Engine & Hose Co., No. 4 Inc., 464 Westchester Ave., Port Chester, NY.
