Students utilizing the Common Application — one application that's completed online and able to be submitted to multiple schools — rose to 920,000 through mid-April, compared with 847,000 at the same time last year, according to the New York Times.

The average student completes 4.4 applications, but many apply to seven or more schools, reported the New York Times.
