Top Stories 2012: Greenwich Votes GOP For President

GREENWICH, Conn. – As 2012 comes to a close, The Greenwich Daily Voice is counting down some of the top stories of the year .

While much of Connecticut – and the majority of the rest of the country – voted Democrat in the 2012 election, Greenwich voted nearly unanimously along Republican lines.

President Barack Obama won his second term in office. But former Gov. Mitt Romney won the most votes in Greenwich, defeating Obama 16,457 to 13,078.

Greenwich also voted Republican for U.S. Senate, choosing Linda McMahon over the eventual winner, Chris Murphy.

All the Republican candidates for the State House and State Senate, including L. Scott Franz, Livvy Floren, Fred Camillo and Stephen Walko, came away with victories.

The only Democrat to win Greenwich's support was U.S. Jim Himes, a Cos Cob resident. Himes trailed challenger Steve Obsitnik when local polls closed, but absentee ballots added the next morning gave Himes the victory in his hometown.
