President Barack Obama flew into Westchester County Airport after giving the commencement address at the Coast Guard Academy in New London on his way to a fundraiser at the North Stamford home of philanthropists Michael and Terran Whittingham. Guests paid up to $33,400 each to attend the benefit for the Democratic National Committee .
Confusion reigned as Greenwich Public Schools congratulated Central Middle School Principal Shelley Somers for her new jobs as principal at Staples High School in Westport. But the next day, the Westport School District said Greenwich had jumped the gun : Somers is a finalist for the top job but must still meet with the community and the school board.
