GREENWICH, Conn. -- Officials at Greenwich Social Services are reminding area residents that the application filing period for the state’s rent rebate program runs until Oct.1.
State law provides the program for renters who are elderly or disabled, and whose annual incomes do not exceed certain limits.
Under the program, a check is directly remitted to an approved applicant by the state.
The checks represent partial refunds of rental and utility payments.
Persons renting an apartment, cooperative housing or leasing a mobile home space may be eligible.
The maximum allowable annual income, based on numbers from 2015, is $35,200 for a single person and $42,900 for a married couple.
Rent rebates can be up to $900 for married couples, and $700 for single applicants.
For more information or to apply, call the Greenwich Department of Social Services at 203-622-3800, or the Office of Policy and Management at 860-418-6280.
