Greenwich Blogger Calls For Boycott Of Women Petition Candidates For RTM

GREENWICH, Conn. — Christopher Fountain, a Realtor who has written a blog about Greenwich for over a decade, is urging residents to not vote for the women who are petition candidates in the race for the town's Representative Town Meeting.

Even as Fountain wrote "I'm trolling here," the conservative blogger said the women would bring a liberal agenda and national politics to the RTM.

Up to 50 women with no previous political experience who are now running are "suffering from Trump Derangement Syndrome," he wrote on his blog. There are 230 seats up for election on the RTM, the town's legislative body.

"These 'Trump Resistance' members have falsely described themselves in the press and in their literature as nonpartisan, and claim a diverse membership comprised of men and women, Democrats, Republicans and Independents: nothing could be further from the truth," Fountain's post says.

"They're a band of far-left women, mostly wealthy housewives with nothing much to do now that summer's ended and those handsome country club tennis pros have returned to college."

Fountain's post was in response to a statement from an organizer of Greenwich Indivisible about the push to find candidates for the RTM.

"And, given the author's emphasis on wealth disparity in town and her condescending references to 'long-time townies', it's pretty obvious where she and her stealth group intend to take the town: nowhere good. (Another giveaway is her reference to 'comrades' and the guillotine mob of the French Revolution, but never mind)," Fountain wrote on his blog.

Fountain calls for residents to boycott these candidates, who he said will push a liberal agenda on the RTM — such as a sanctuary city, resolutions demanding the impeachment of Trump, gun control, or rent control.

"I repeat my original suggestion: don't vote for any female petition candidate: we may lose a number of very able (and stable) women who aren't members of this coven of shrieking banshees, but all 50 of the Indivisible candidates are petition candidates, so kill them all," he wrote.

In a response on its Facebook page, Indivisible Greenwich said of Fountain and his blog post, "Just what young families look for in a realtor, hateful, sexist and perverted vitriol."

The blog post is drawing attention beyond the borders of Greenwich. Vogue's story about it was the most shared item on its website. And the New York Times weighed in on the Greenwich election as well, writing mostly about the many women running for the RTM but mentioning the blog post.

The Vogue story also says some of the women were inspired to run after RTM leader Christopher von Keyserling was arrested last winter and charged with fourth-degree sexual assault. He told a female town employee, “I love this new world; I no longer have to be politically correct,” and, according to his arrest warrant, pinched the woman’s groin. Von Keyserling stepped down from his leadership position but was allowed to keep his seat.
