Vyacheslav Cherepov, 28, hit 21-year-old Meghan Beebe of Middlebury and dragged her underneath his car for 900 feet and backed over her before fleeing the scene on Dec. 28, 2013. Beebe, a senior at the University of Massachusetts and a graduate of Westover School, died hours later at Stamford Hospital.

A female companion of Beebe's unsuccessfully attempted to stop Cherepov and his red 2006 Pontiac G6 sedan.

Cherepov was arrested two days after the incident when he returned to the scene. He worked as a waiter at a nearby restaurant.

Blood on Cherepov's car was later linked to Beebe through DNA testing. Cherepov pleaded guilty in October to one count of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death as part of a plea deal.

Cherepov has been in custody since his arrest and will get credit for time served, reported Greenwich Time.

The victim's father spoke about his daughter's love for life at the sentencing in Superior Court in Stamford, the Greenwich Time said.
