Steven Wolff, 45, of the Bronx, pleaded guilty Tuesday to one count of sexual abuse of a ward before U.S. Magistrate Judge Holly B. Fitzsimmons in Bridgeport, said Deirdre M. Daly, acting U.S. attorney for Connecticut.
According to court documents and statements made in court, Wolff engaged in sexual acts with a female inmate while he was employed as a utilities systems repair operator foreman by the Federal Bureau of Prisons at the Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury.
On multiple occasions between July 2011 and Nov. 27, 2011, Wolff and the victim met privately in the boiler area of the prison facility and engaged in sexual intercourse, the statement said. In addition, Wolff provided contraband, including hair dye, candy, greeting cards and over-the-counter medication to her, the statement said. Contraband was also provided to another inmate who acted as a lookout during the illicit activity.
Wolff is scheduled to be sentenced by Senior U.S. District Judge Warren W. Eginton in Bridgeport on Oct. 29. He faces a maximum prison term of 15 years and a fine of up to $250,000.
This case was investigated by the Department of Justice Office of Inspector General and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Anastasia E. King.
