Rain will fall Wednesday and could become heavy late in the day, which could cause flooding in urban, low-lying areas as well as in areas with poor drainage, the National Weather Service said. Up to two inches of rain is possible going into Wednesday night. High temperatures during the day will reach the mid-50s.
The rain will get heavier during the overnight hours, with up to 4 inches of precipitation possible by Thursday morning. Higher amounts are possible in some areas. The additional rain could cause small rivers and streams to reach flood levels.
The Flood Watch is in effect from 8 p.m. Wednesday until noon on Thursday across all of Connecticut, New York City, Westchester County, N.Y., and northern New Jersey.
The National Weather Service advises residents in areas prone to flooding to remain alert and be prepared to take action.
The latest front is expected to clear from the area overnight on Thursday, but a chance of rain continues through the weekend.
