Other than taking all guns away and making sure none ever enter the country again, even illegally, there is no way to stop a tragedy like this. The person that did this was reported by his brother to be emotionally and mentally unbalanced. Everyone knew that. That type of person would never have been able to a gun legally, he obviously got it by taking it from someone else. How you get all guns off of the streets? I would not even know how to begin collecting the all the guns that are out there. View Comment
Bruce, New York never had a Board of Legislator and County Exec style County Government in Westchester until 1959 or so. I may be off a couple of years. Before that it was run by the Board of Supervisors form all the Towns. There are a lot of things that the County does that the State would have to do. View Comment
UPDATE: We were originally told the health insurance rates would increase 11.9%. Yesterday the 2013 rates (although not final), were significantly lower and bring the tax in at 3.36 percent.
We discussed the garbage contact in the Town Fall Newsletter.and explained that the new contract, which was competitively bid, by itself increased the budget by 3.44%. The last garbage contract was a 6 years contract as is the new contract which also has an option to exit the contract after 3 years. We looked at the cost of private and municipal garbage and it was still cheaper for everyone to have municipal garbage as opposed to private pickup.
There were also increases in the NYS Retirement system which increased the budget over 1.25%. Obviously if the retirement, health and garbage was significantly more that the tax increase, other items were reduced. View Comment
We hope and pray that everyone will remain safe at times like this and when something like this happens it is a tragedy for the families of these precious young men and also for our Town.
We all knew the families; we know them from school, we know them from the PTA, we know the grandparents who live in the same neighborhood and we keep all of them in our prayers and thoughts and we also thank God for the volunteers who serve us at times like this.
Life is precious. Wires, trees, roads can be repaired and our inconvenience because of the normal problems we face in this type of storm is not at all important in the scheme of things.
I wish I were there with you but it has been impossible to find a way back to New York. I have been talking to Deputy Supervisor Peter Kamenstein and OEM Chairman Kurt Guldan regularly who along with all of our volunteers are doing an excellent job in a very difficult situation.
Please be careful. View Comment
