Why not explain that Norwalk gives the state much much more than it gets back. We overpay and you guys redistribute funds in a way that is very disadvantageous to our City. So while we appreciate your grant efforts isn't it counterproductive and wasteful to tax us, redistribute in a manner that leaves us short on cash and then go through this grant process so we can provide basic services? How much of the money gets eAten up in salaries along the way? It's nice that you get to have everyone see your smiling face but how many know the truth?
You mention Norwalk housing getting grants as well. Which would again be great if the question of WHY we constantly need more units and how it benefits the city were answered. Obviously if the various social programs we also pay for to help the inner city poor were working we would see vacancies as people move up and out of the projects. Instead we see you smiling about getting money for more of them. Who will live there? Are they for Norwalks needy or are we going to market them to the public at large and bring more people who can't afford to live in the climate you created to Norwalk? These are things you should address here and on other social media. We all know you show up for photo ops and talk to children at school. But what we need is for you to do your job and put the Taxpayer first. The way your gang has taxed us nobody should need a grant for anything. Our state rakes in more than 48 of the remaining 49 states per taxpayer, why are we broke? Why are you smiling when you are a part of a state legislature that's going broke and can't pay it's bills? A long time member of the general assembly that has gotten many things passed. Shouldn't you be sad by the poor performance of your party in our state?
These are things we need to know to make a decision on your performance. Not how much you milked Hartford for, that replaces what you took and doesn't reflect well on you to thinking people at all. We shouldn't need grants and wouldn't with responsible leadership in Zhartford. View Comment
Ironic that people responsible for the sad state of affairs regarding the needy in Norwalk and CT are proud that they can hold a party to help them. We wouldn't need so many assistance organizations if our elected officials and their buerocrats actually acted responsibly and reigned in spending. How much did all those new Ford Explorers for the PD cost? ALOT more than 12 grand. How about the fire boat we don't even have dockage for? Responsible spending would go much further than publicity stunts to help Norwalkers. View Comment
These guys will run you into the ground for making common sense posts like this. Don't let them bother you. Anybody who would support the same people election after election even while the state is crumbling around them shouldn't be allowed to vote. Pretty soon they will need to tax welfare because thats all who will be left.
Why bother with that when we have people posting under names like "breaking news" etc? This site would be MUCH better if real names were required. Just like CT would be better off if tax returns were required for voting. View Comment
Umm, thats entirely untrue. Most states have far fewer taxes and I defy anybody to show one with more. Overall CT is if not the highest taxed state very close. This due to runaway progressive politics and an ever growing chunk of the population that take much much more than they give.
Our income tax is among the highest, our property tax is among the highest, our vehicle tax is also high, most states have no vehicle tax because unlike real estate a vehicle is really yours, our sales tax too is high, our sin taxes are high, we tax everything imaginable and STILL OPERATE IN A DEFICIT.
Trying to defend the Democratic policies killing us is inexcusable.
NH has NO income tax, NO sales tax, NO MV tax, they operate pretty much solely on property taxes, which are still lower than ours and thats just one example. CT is a cesspool ruined by a combination of progressive politics, greedy self serving democrat politicians and an exploding welfare class. View Comment
So the two biggest cities contributed the LEAST while the wealthiest contributed many millions more, and yet some lowlifes think that they don't contribute enough? What more do we need to prove that big municipalities and urban centers are a blight on the rest of the state? Bridgeport residents averaged only $938 a person in taxes, New Haven less, and both voted Democrat by a HUGE margin. Another sign of just who and what is killing us. The citizens who contribute the LEAST to the state have far better representation than those who actually support them. Welfare reform needs to address this, if you are getting a check from welfare you should surrender your voting privileges. Its in no way fair for places that are a net loss to all of us to be the deciding factor in elections. Whats sad IMO is that they are inclined to worry about things in order to prevent being targets of the Black cultural leadership, which is all this can be about. We all have biases as noted, most are instinctual learned behaviors that deal with survival. Its an unfortunate reality that here and in most cities in America street violence is committed by minorities. So people, reasonably, learn to avoid areas and are wary of some races more than others. Even minorities themselves, though its not racist in that case. Looking at the news with an open mind quickly makes this obvious. We, people, white, black, spanish etc, have more control over this than we like to admit.
PCism is one of our biggest problems. Nobody wants to look Rev Mann for instance, in the eye and tell her the reason Black people are more often the focus of their interest than White people are is because of the reality of who commits crimes. Its not the polices job to figure out the why of it or fix it, they enforce laws and the lawbreakers are who they are. If the cultural leaderships involved did more to change the behavior that gets them in trouble instead of just ruffling feathers things might improve.
I have a bias towards right and just. There is nothing right or just about feeling bad for dealing with reality or apologizing for it. View Comment
My kid goes there, it was a Black kid hitting a white one, which although left out of this story woulda been the headline if it were reversed. Id bet he is from SONO, his parents vote Democrat and if we let people go to school in their district like we should, wouldn't have even been there. If people bother to look its obvious that most violence and drugs in Norwalk High are brought to us from the stupid policy shipping children out of district. View Comment
Bob Duff loves getting credit for wealth redistribution like this. He could do much more for all of us though if he worked to cut spending to relieve the tax burden so people could earn a living. I think the residents of SONO need jobs more than a place for people to sell drugs and shoot each other. And the picture is so far out of context its pathetic. A picture of hardworking men in East Norwalk as a header for a piece about a community garden in SONO? LOL ok. View Comment
the cost of redeveloping and maintaining these things is astronomical, add in the crime and violence they attract to a place and begging for money to build them seems pretty damn stupid. Like paying to get cancer cells injected into yourself. We should be working to eliminate or reduce these units, not build more. If we need more its simply more proof of just how bad the Democrats have made our state. View Comment
Why do we put people on paid leave when they work for a municipality so much? We give people from street sweepers to police paid vacations when they abuse our trust, thats absurd. Accelerated rehab is fine but they should simply lose their jobs when in such trusted positions. If I had children in that school Id be very very upset if these lowlifes were overseeing them. Another upstanding resident of Roodner court. Just think how nice Norwalk would be without taxpayer funded violent criminal breeding grounds. Of course they won't be going anywhere though because their presence brings in grants that are more important to our local legislators, Mayor and other city leaders than creating a nice safe city for the taxpayers. This is a great program and very worthy, especially in an environment such as ours where the State Govt taxes so many into poverty and cuts education as a way to minimize the effect of their irresponsible governance. Ironically Bob Duff and most of the other politicians in attendance are directly responsible for the cost of living in CT. Almost like they intentionally create needy people so they can boast about helping them while driving taxes ever higher with programs to help the needy created by their failure to act in our best interests. There are no cost free services available, maybe the smoker doesn't pay but somebody does, the taxpayer of course. Note as well that we are third in tobacco taxation (typical CT) sand ask yourself exactly where the senate Dems and Malloy will get funds to replace that money as smoking continues to be reduced. People not smoking is good. But don't be fooled into thinking that cigarette smoking COSTS the state money, it generates millions more than it costs. Another case of irresponsible financial practices sucking money from the citizenry for no reason except they can. Take a moment to think about how much other taxes will skyrocket to close the gap, even though we regularly operate in the red anyway, as smoking dwindles. For now they just keep upping the tobacco tax but that is another unsustainable practice. But we deserve it for electing the same losers election after election.
The reality is this site has been ruined for over a year by fake people pretending top be other posters, creating several screen names, acting like little children and creating an atmosphere in which intelligent discourse is impossible. The Daily Voice should REQUIRE people to use real names or at least pay attention enough to remove the posters who abuse what could be a great asset to the community. But honestly I don't think there is any real moderation and what little I see seems almost as bad as the small minded people causing the issues. Iv noticed many times comments getting deleted apparently based solely on expressing conservative views while posts like those ion this thread, useless childish bickering and silliness, are left to stand. They do nothing about posters imitating others screen names, including mine. Sad really but sad and childish seems the norm in many things around CT. View Comment
He wants to make CT an even better place to live, work and raise a family? Wait a minute, isn't he the same guy that voted to raise taxes, helped drive out thousands of jobs, and voted for a law that not only did nothing to make our kids safer but actually makes us all less safe?
Its almost funny hearing the people directly responsible for our states dismal current situation talk about making it "even better" The more I listen to this stuff the more I question the intelligence of people that vote for these guys.
