Crash Scene Cleared From Merritt Parkway In New Canaan

UPDATE: All lanes of the Merritt Parkway have reopened after the multi-vehicle crash Monday afternoon, DOT said.

original story: NEW CANAAN, Conn. — One lane has reopened on the Merritt in New Canaan after a three-car accident Monday afternoon closed the parkway for an hour, according to the state Department of Transportation. 

The crash was on the southbound side of the Merritt between Exits 37 and 36, DOT said. 

The crash was first reported at 3:05 p.m. and the parkway was still closed until about 4:10 p.m. Monday, when one lane reopened, DOT said.

Traffic backups were also reported on the northbound side in the area, DOT said. 

Delays are reported on the southbound side for 3.5 miles from Exit 40A to Exit 37. On the northbound side, delays are reported for 3.4 miles from Exit 35 to Exit 37, DOT said.

A car fire was extinguished by the New Canaan Fire Department at the scene, according to the New Canaan Advertiser
