Dog Rescued From Icy Waters Of Five Mile River In Darien DARIEN, Conn. — Darien police officers and firefighters rescued a dog from the icy waters of Five Mile River on Tuesday afternoon. The Darien Police Department and Darien Fire Department responded to Five Mile River on a report of a dog in distress. The dog had made its way to a small patch of grass but had become stranded when the tide came in, police said. The Darien Fire Department quickly donned cold water gear and used a nearby dinghy to reach the dog. It was then taken to shore and reunited with its owner. The dog was not injured in the incident.

Melting Snow To Refreeze Tonight, Creating Icy Conditions In Greenwich FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Tuesday may have felt relatively pleasant in Fairfield County compared to last week, with temperatures warming to near 40, but a drop in temperature after sunset tonight will result in icy conditions on roads and walkways. Police: Norwalk Crash That Left Two Dead Caused By Head-On Collision NORWALK, Conn. -- A head-on crash on Connecticut Avenue/Route 1 in Norwalk late Monday night left two people dead and a third person with serious injuries, police said. The accident occurred at 10:11 p.m. in front of 789 Connecticut Ave., near the border of Darien and Norwalk. Arriving officers found two cars in the roadway with extensive damage, police said. Norwalk Resident Dies In Skydiving Accident In Florida NORWALK, Conn. — A 25-year-old Norwalk resident died on Sunday as a result of a skydiving accident in Zephyrhills, Florida, according to the Tampa Bay Times. Joshua Butzke had jumped from a plane 13,500 feet in the air near the Zephyrhills Municipal Airport, and deployed his parachute at 3,500 feet, the Tampa Bay Times reported. However, his parachute began spiraling and he landed hard, resulting in the injuries that killed him, according to the Tampa Bay Times. Darien Man Charged With Strangulation, Assault DARIEN, Conn. -- A Darien man was charged with grabbing someone's throat and phone after an argument turned physical last week, according to police. The Darien Police Communications Center received a 911 call on Thursday, Jan. 4 from a cell phone. Cash Stolen From Car On Overbrook Road In Darien DARIEN, Conn. -- Money was stolen from a car on Overbrook Road in Darien while the owner was away on vacation over the holidays. The owner of a 2018 Audi Q7 told police that she was on vacation from Dec. 26 through Dec. 31, and that during that time someone entered her car while it was parked in the driveway. She said the only thing that was missing was $10 in change. She believed she had locked the car, but police said the door was found ajar and there were no signs of forced entry.

Car Window Smashed In Parking Lot Of Tennis Club In Darien DARIEN, Conn. -- Someone smashed windows to a car at the Old Kings Highway Tennis Club in Darien on Sunday, police said. The complainant said he parked his car at the club, located on Old Kings Highway North, at around 10:30 a.m. Sunday. When he returned at around noon, he saw that the rear driver's side window was smashed and his glove box was open. The thief had taken six months of pay stubs from the glove box, and two empty bank bags from the back seat, police said. The car had been locked. No other cars in the lot were burglarized, police said.

Two Busted With Crystal Meth At Stamford Motel STAMFORD, Conn. — Two people were arrested after police found crystal meth on them in separate incidents at a Stamford motel this weekend, according to the Stamford Advocate. Police told the Stamford Advocate that officers spotted a man sitting in a car in the parking lot Friday afternoon before going inside.
