Greenwich Gymnasts Compete For Stamford Club In State Championships

STAMFORD, Conn. – Arena Gymnastics of Stamford crowned three all-around state champions and seven state champions in individual events at the U.S. Gymnastics Connecticut State Championships last weekend at Hamden Hall.

Erika Marr of Ridgefield won the Level 9 all-around title in the 14-15-year-old age group. Westport’s Pam Onorato won the Level 9 all-around title 16-and-up age group, and Westport's Rayna Weiser won the Level 8 16-and-up all-around title.

In Level 7, Greenwich’s Ellie Marino won balance beam in the 13-year-old group. Whitney Bryant won the floor exercise in the 13-year-old division. Julia Servas of Darien won the 11-year-old age group floor title and Gabi Dinisoe of Norwalk won the 10-and-under age group title on floor exercise.

Marr also won the uneven bars in the 14-15 age group at Level 9, and Onorato won the beam in the 16-and-over age group. In Level 8, Weiser won the uneven bars in the 16-and-over division and Nicole Humphrey of Darien took first on the floor exercise in 13-14 age group.

Arena’s Level 9 gymnasts finished second as a team.  Ridgefield’s Emma Kirchner, Norwalk’s Bianca Dinisoe, Greenwich’s Ashlyn Wall and Wilton’s Ilana Olin also competed. Marr, Onorato, Wahl, Dinisoe and Kirchner qualified for next month’s Regional Championships, where the top six in each age division will qualify for the USA Gymnastics Eastern National Championships in Tampa in May.

The Arena Level 8 girls also finished in second place.  Wilton’s Jessica Olin qualified for Connecticut’s Super 7 Team to Regionals.  Weiser and Stamford’s Maddy Henie will represent Connecticut on the Senior Team.  Humphrey has qualified on the 13-14 year old state team, and is the alternate for the Level 8 Super 7 team.  Stamford’s Carlee Reid will compete on Connecticut’s Junior Team at Regionals.  Cos Cob’s Brett Edmonds also contributed to the team effort.

Arena’s Level 7 team finished third, and Marino finished second All Around in her age group, earning the alternate spot to Connecticut’s Super 7 Team for Regionals.  Weston’s McKenna Weiner also competed for the Level 7 team.
