Stamford Woman Takes Top Spot At Greenwich Triathlon

GREENWICH, Conn. – Megan Kelly of Stamford was the first woman to cross the finish line at the 26th annual Volvo of Stamford Greenwich Cup Triathlon on Sunday morning. Kelly, who gave birth to triplets last year, won the race for the first time, finishing in 1:12:10.

"Greenwich is where I grew up so it's awesome to finally win," said Kelly, who was also the female runner-up in 2009 and 2010. "This was my first ever triathlon ten years ago. It's so well-run, I see a lot of friends out on the course and it gets the community involved. It's just a lot of fun."

Weather put the race in jeopardy for the second year in a row after rain soaked Fairfield County on Saturday evening. But the course had dried and the waters were calm enough to kick off the race on time at 6:30 a.m. for the more than 500 competitors.

David Demres of New Haven took the top overall spot in the race, blowing away the competition with a time of 1:04:45. Demres topped the next closest finisher by almost four minutes.
