Rye Country Day Rallies Past Greens Farms

WESTPORT, Conn. – Sean Obi scored 24 points and grabbed 23 rebounds Thursday but it was not enough for Greens Farms Academy as it fell to Rye Country Day in a Fairchester Athletic Association boys basketball game in Rye, N.Y.

Rye Country Day improved to 7-1 overall and 4-0 in the FAA, while Greens Farms slipped to 3-3, 2-3.

“We did a lot of things well, but shooting the ball was not one of them,’’ Greens Farms coach Doug Scott said. “We missed 36 points worth of scoring in the paint. I want to attribute it to the big holiday lay off, but Rye did not seem to suffer from the same affliction.”

Greens Farms led 25-19 at halftime before Rye Country Day rallied in the second half behind Darren Douglas (20 points). Hunter Eggers added 11 points, and six rebounds while Matt Tate contributed seven points, five assists and four rebounds. Eggers and Tate are from Greenwich.

Greens Farms lost to Rye Country Day earlier in the year, 84-63.

The Dragons host “Pack The House” night on Saturday at 6 p.m. against Brunswick. The game is a fund-raiser for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Greens Farms students have solicited pledges from the community to donate based on the number of spectators who attend the game.
