In two World Cup races in Calgary, Canada, this weekend, West, 19, finished seventh in the first and winning sliver in the second one. That makes for back-to-back podium weekends for the Ridgefield native.

Also, residents will get a chance to watch West in action on television as the NBC Sports Network airs the Lake Placid Luge World Cup race from earlier this month, when he won gold. The event will air from  7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday.

With his victory at his home track in Lake Placid, N.Y., West became the first American to win a singles race in 17 years. He also became the youngest World Cup singles winner in team history. (Read more about his victory here in the Daily Voice.)

After just three stops on the World Cup tour this season, West is now ranked fifth in the world, a big jump from last season, when he ranked 24th. USA teammate Chris Mazdzer is ranked fourth. Two men in the Top 5 is a first in USA Luge history.

West is headed home for the holidays, before eight more World Cup races kick off the first week in January and run through March.

West became a "Today" show and Internet sensation last winter when he became the youngest athlete ever to make the U.S. Olympic luge team and competed in Sochi, Russia.
