Pastore Leaves Junior Circuit in Style

David Pastore had one golf tournament left to play as a junior, and he brought his best game. Pastore, 18, a Greenwich resident, won the eighth annual Carter Cup, a 36-hole stroke play junior championship in Springfield, N.J.

He finished with an impressive 4-under-par 140 for two rounds of play. Pastore became the first junior golfer to win the Carter Cup and the Met Junior Championship. Pastore was a Met Junior champion in 2006 and 2009.

Pastore, who will attend the University of Virginia in the fall, held off a comeback by Ryan McCormick of Middletown, N.J., to win by three strokes. Pastore dominated the back nine of the second round to seal the win. He finished the two rounds with eight birdies and two bogeys. He completes his junior career as one of the most decorated under-18 players in Metropolitan Golf Association history.
