Greenwich's Balin Rides Wild Comeback To Met Win

GREENWICH, Conn. – Danny Balin erased a seven-shot deficit and leapfrogged 12 other golfers in the final round of the 97th Met Open Championship to win his first-ever title at the prestigious Metropolitan Golf Association event held in Edison, N.J.

Balin, an assistant pro at Burning Tree Country Club, stunned the field with arguably his best round of the summer, shooting a stellar 66 in the final round to finish the tournament at nine-under.

After struggling with a plus-one second round, Balin stormed out of the gate on the final day. He birdied four of the first six holes on the tournament's third day to begin his comeback. Balin finished with seven birdies on the day, with his only blemish coming on the eighth hole where he shot a bogey.

Balin birdied on holes 10, 11 and 14, then settled for par on the remaining holes to hold off amateur Ryan McCormick of Middletown, N.J. It was the second-largest comeback victory in Met Open history, according to a press release.

Balin also won the New York State Open at Bethpage Black last month, competed in the PGA Championship and finished third at the Connecticut Open held in Darien.

Balin was featured in a series of instructional golf videos that ran on The Daily Voice last summer.
