Greenwich Woman 11th in World Triathlon Race

Greenwich's Karen Newman was 11th in the women's 50-54 division of the International Triathlon Union World Championships in Beijing. Stamford's John Cook won the 75- to 79-year-old age group.

Newman finished the race in 2:50.15. The Olympic distance consists of a 1.5-kilometer (0.93-mile) swim, a 40K (24.8-mile) bike ride and a 10K (6.2-mile) run. Cook, 76, finished the Olympic distance course in 3 hours, 50 minutes and 13 seconds. It is the first world title for Cook, who finished 15th in the 2005 Age Group World Championships in Honolulu.
