GREENWICH, Conn. Home or away, the Greenwich High boys swimming and diving team continues to dominate this season. In their first road meet of 2012, the Cardinals erased an early deficit by dominating the final five events, defeating Wilton, 97-73, and remaining unbeaten.
Wilton jumped out to the lead with wins in the first six events, including a first place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. But the Cardinals took second in the 200-yard freestyle, individual medley and the 50-yard freestyle to stay within striking distance.
Thomas Dillinger gave Greenwich its first victory with a thrilling first-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle. He eked out the win over Wiltons Mason Molina by .36 seconds with a time of 5:00.02.
Greenwich never looked back from there, picking up 10 points from the 200-yard freestyle relay thanks to first- and third-place finishes. The relay team of Ed Mose, Julien Fraser, Max Zim and Matthew Frasier took the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:33.33.
Greenwich locked up the meet victory with wins in the 100-yard backstroke (Alex Lewis, 56.55), the 100-yard breaststroke (Iain Edmundson, 1:06.01) and the 400-yard freestyle relay (Ben Wurst, Andrew Stotesbury, Matthew Fraser, Thomas Dillinger, 3:29.69).
Greenwich (7-0) will face a stiff test to keep its unbeaten streak alive when it hosts Fairfield Prep on Saturday at 4 p.m. in the Greenwich High pool.
