Hazlett erased a mark set by Chantal Rawn in 1991 in the 50-yard freestyle, swimming 24.68 in the USA Swimming Eastern Short Course Zone championships in March. She also broke Rawn’s record in the  50-yard backstroke.

Rawn went on to have an outstanding career at Greenwich High School and Stanford University, and competed in the U.S. Olympic Trials.

Hazlett also had top times in the 50 and 100-yard butterfly at the Eastern meet.

She capped off the season by leading the Dolphins in scoring at the Sunkissed Junior-Senior Championships in Charlotte, N.C. She won gold medals in the 50 free, 100 individual medley and 100 butterfly. She also took silver medals in the 100 free and 200 individual medley.

"Kate is showing all the signs of developing into an elite sprinter,’’ Dolphins coach Nick Cavataro said. “She has great technique, explosive starts and turns and really likes to race. Combine this with her work ethic and fearlessness to try a variety of events and it will be an exciting summer long course season.”
