Greenwich, Stamford Women Run Well in New York

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – Greenwich’s Sharon Vos and Stamford’s Sharon Lemberger won age group awards Sunday at the New York City Half Marathon.

Vos captured the women’s 50-59-year-old age group by completing the 13.1 mile course in 1:29.22. Lemberger ran 1:19.27 and finished second in the women’s 35-39-year-old age group. She also wa the first Connecticut woman and 195th overall in a field of more than 15,000 runners.

New Canaan’s Larry Ikard finished third among Connecticut men in 1:24:56, and was 47th overall. Darien’s Mike Moore (426th overall) and Brad Wellington (428th overall) were the next Connecticut runners across the finish line.

Daisy Pearce of Cos Cob was sixth in the women’s 60-64-year-old age group. Complete results are available on the New York Road Runners website.

The other race of note in the region last weekend was the St. Patrick’s Day Classic in Fairfield, where Meredith Anand of Easton won the women’s division. She finished the four-mile course in 23:14, while Wilton’s Mary Zengo finished second in the women’s field in 24:10.

Norwalk’s Eneas Freyre took second in the men’s race, running 20:49. Age group winners from the area included Westport’s Caroline Koenig in the girls 13-15 age group; Fairfield’s Michael Whelan in the boys 16-19 age group; Ashley Lampman of Norwalk in the women’s 20-29 age group; Old Greenwich's Ron Rembaum in the men’s  65-69 age group; and Monica Roche of Fairfield in the women’s 70-79 age group.
