Greenwich Soccer Player Named To U15 National Team

GRENWICH, Conn. -- Tyler Shaver, 15, of Greenwich, traveled as a member of the U15 U.S. National Soccer Team to Buenos Aires, Argentina in early June to train and compete in matches against national teams from Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay, according to a press release.

Shaver is a defender for Beachside Academy, where he plays on the U15-16 academy team. He joined Beachside last year from New York Soccer Club.

He was one of 18 boys that traveled with the U.S. National Team to Argentina.

Shaver attends Brunswick School, where he is in ninth grade and on the high honor roll.

"I feel very blessed to have been called up to play with such a talented group of players, and I am excited and proud to represent the United States in international competition in Argentina," Shaver said in a press release.

"I have known Tyler since he started playing soccer in the Old Greenwich Riverside Community Center recreational and travel programs," said his current coach, Mickey Kydes, in a press release. "Tyler’s development over the years has been outstanding and now Tyler is ready to take it to another level, as he is playing with kids that are two years older. Tyler’s selection to the national team is a testament to his attitude, work ethic, commitment and soccer brain."
