The Greenwich Old Timers Athletic Association supports youth sports and the programs that use sports. The funds they raise help fund scholarships and provide support that allows children to participate in sports programs.

This year’s national honorees are Wesley Walker and Sparky Lyle.

Walker was a wide receiver for the New York Jets from 1977 to 1989. In 13 seasons with the Jets, he averaged 19 yards per reception, which is still a Jets team record. Walker led the NFL in receiving yards in 1978 and earned All-Pro honors in both 1978 and 1982.

Lyle pitched for the World Series champion New York Yankees in 1977 and 1978; he also played for the Boston Red Sox, Philadelphia Phillies, Texas Rangers and the Chicago White Sox. He won the American League Cy Young Award in 1977.

This year’s local honorees are: Sue Baker, Larry Chiappetta, Ralph Mayo and Tim Ostrye. Each person’s dedication and spirit encouraged the young men and women of Greenwich to grow through their participation in athletics.
