GREENWICH, Conn. - LJ Mazzilli, a Greenwich native and son of former big-league player and manager Lee Mazzilli, was selected Tuesday by the Minnesota Twins in the ninth round of the 2012 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft. Mazzilli was the 280th overall pick in the draft.
A junior second baseman at the University of Connecticut, Mazzilli led the Huskies in hitting with a .339 average. He had nine home runs, 19 doubles and 38 RBI this season and was named to the All-Big East first team.
