GREENWICH, Conn. -- Old Greenwich martial artist and instructor Ik Jo Kang has been inducted into the US Grand Master Society Hall of Fame.

The April 30 ceremony, attended by grand master martial artists from across the country, was at the Doubletree Hotel by Hilton in Fort Lee, N.J.

Training in martial arts teaches focus, discipline, concentration, integrity and technical skill.

Kang recently finished an independent feature film in which he stars called "I Can I Will I Did." It is due out in 2017.

During the course of his 50 years teaching, Kang has trained thousands of school-age and adult students and inspired hundreds to pursue their study to achieve black belt status. His expertise ranges through Tae Kwon Do (karate), Hap Ki Do (self-defense) and Kum Do (sword). His school, Kang Tae Kwon Do & Hap Ki Do, is on Sound Beach Avenue in Old Greenwich.

Kang also is well known for his community service. He has served as president of the Korean Association of New York and the Korean Association of the United States, chaired the Federation of Korean American Committees for the 1988 Olympics and has received numerous honors, including the Dongbaeg medal for civic service in Korea.
