Greenwich High School Sports Kick Off Tuesday

GREENWICH, Conn. – Scrimmages are over and the fall sports season begins for real, as Greenwich High School teams play their first games Tuesday. Other opening games continue throughout the week.

Below is the schedule of season openers for fall sports teams at Greenwich High.

Tuesday

Boys & Girls Cross Country, 4 p.m.: The boys and girls cross country teams open up their seasons on the road at St. Joseph in Trumbull. The Cardinals take on the Cadets, Norwalk and Bridgeport Central in a multiteam contest.

Boys Soccer at Norwalk, 7:15 p.m.: The boys soccer team begins its season on the road as well, traveling to Norwalk. The Cardinals were 9-4-3 last season, falling to eventual state champion Pomperaug in the second round of the Class LL tournament.

Wednesday

Girls Soccer at New Canaan, 4 p.m.: The defending conference champion girls soccer team travels to New Canaan to open its 2012 schedule. The Cardinals went 10-2-4 last season, defeating Fairfield Warde for the conference title.

Field Hockey vs. Fairfield Warde, 4 p.m.: The field hockey team hosts Fairfield Warde in the first home game of the year for any Greenwich team. Greenwich snuck into the Class L state playoffs with a 4-6-3-2 record and got all the way to the state semifinals.

Friday

Girls Swimming and Diving, 3:30 p.m.: The girls swimming and diving team hosts the Brien McMahon-Norwalk Co-Op team in the Greenwich High pool. The Cardinals won their seventh consecutive State Open championship last season.

Girls Volleyball, 4 p.m.: The girls volleyball team hosts Fairfield Warde at 4 p.m. in the Greenwich High gymnasium. The Cardinals were 14-4 last season.

Football at Ridgefield, 7 p.m.: The Greenwich High football team opens its season on the road. The Cardinals went 8-2 last season and were runners-up in the conference.
