Greenwich Girls Go for Back-to-Back Lacrosse Titles

GREENWICH, Conn. — The Greenwich High School girls lacrosse team is going for another state title. The Cardinals return to the Class L finals for the second year in a row as they take on top-ranked Cheshire at Bunnell High School in Stratford at 10 a.m.

Third-ranked Greenwich survived second-seeded Newtown in the state semifinals, 11-10, and will play for its third state title in program history. The Cardinals' offense has been on a roll in the state tournament, having outscored opponents 42-23 in the first three rounds.

Greenwich came up one win short of its first conference title since 2003. The Cardinals fell to Darien, 17-14, in the title game.

Greenwich did play Cheshire in an out-of-conference, regular season matchup back on April 14, handing Cheshire one of its two losses on the season, 17-6.

Greenwich was 13-2 in the regular season, the only two losses coming back-to-back against New Canaan and Wilton.

The Cardinals defeated Glastonbury in last season's Class L state title game, 12-10.
