GREENWICH, Conn. The fifth-grade Greenwich Flame travel basketball team nearly squandered a 13-point fourth quarter lead but was able to hang on for the win Saturday. Leading 30-17 after three quarters over New Canaan Black, the Flame was on the wrong side of a 13-6 run. But Greenwich fought for a 36-30 victory.
Brett Cosby led the charge for Greenwich, scoring a game-high 14 points. New Canaan nearly pulled within two points with less than a minute to play, but Greenwich pulled down a rebound. Cosby raced the length of the court and sank a layup to ice the game for the Flame.
Conrad Crakes added six points for Greenwich. Daniel Cotto and Jack Malloy each netted four points.
Greenwich will take on Stamford Youth fifth-grade team on Wednesday at 6:15 p.m.
