NEW CANAAN, Conn. In the wake of nail-biting, emotionally draining games in the first two rounds of the District 1 tournament, the Greenwich 10-year-old Cal Ripken team seemed to run out of gas Monday evening. Facing a hard-hitting New Canaan squad on its home field, Greenwich was trounced, 9-2, and eliminated from the tourney.
New Canaan was kept off the board when it failed to score with the bases loaded in the bottom of the first. But Greenwich couldnt get its offense going. New Canaan starter Stephen Wronski was lights-out, holding Greenwich to four hits in four innings and striking out four.
Greenwich's only offense came in the top of the fifth, when Nicholas Glass and Louis Gianuzzi ripped back-to-back RBI singles. Greenwich went 1-2-3 in its final at-bats.
