Greenwich Boys Soccer Falls In Fciac Semifinals

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – Kent Coleman and Connor Findlay scored first-half goals Tuesday to lift Ridgefield over Greenwich, 2-0, in the semifinals of the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference boys soccer tournament.

The second-seded Tigers (15-2-1) will share the league title with Norwalk, a 5-1 winner over Wilton in Tuesday’s other semifinal game at Fairfield Ludlowe High School.  The league declared co-champions due to schedule constraints created by Hurricane Sandy, which postponed the league semifinals for more than a week.

Ridgefield’s Joseph DeVino, who assisted on Findlay’s goal and had a brilliant game attacking the Greenwich defense, earned game MVP honors.

It was the Tigers’ first league title since 2003 and the first for coach Phil Bergen.

Third-seeded Greenwich (13-3-2) had opportunities but was denied by Ridgefield's Calvin Dearth (four saves). Several other good scoring chances sailed wide or high.

Both teams move on to the Class LL tournament beginning Thursday.
