GREENWICH, Conn. The Greenwich Blues Mite A hockey team fell into an early 4-0 hole against Mid-Fairfield on Saturday, but nearly pulled itself out of it. Greenwich cut the Mid-Fairfield lead to 4-3 early in the third, but ultimately fell 6-3.
A quick four-goal flurry by Mid-Fairfield ultimately did Greenwich in. The first period seemed like it would be a scoreless one, but with just 47 seconds to play Mid-Fairfields Brendan OByrne put his team on the board. He scored again just 19 seconds later.
Mid-Fairfield opened the second period with another pair of goals within the first minute. Greenwich played tough, however, and fought back.
Connor Welsh finally put Greenwich on the scoreboard with a goal at 7:09 in the second. He netted another with 3:22 to play.
Harrison Dahl brought Greenwich within one just 48 seconds into the final period, but Mid-Fairfield fought the Blues off. Ashton Berkwitt made several spectacular saves in the third to keep Greenwich in striking distance. But Mid-Fairfields Sydney Morrow finally solved Berkwitt to sink Greenwich.
Greenwich Mite A takes on Stamford at Stamford Twin Rinks on Sunday.
