Greenwich Batter Hits Dramatic Two-Run Homer To Clinch Cal Ripken Tourney

OLD GREENWICH, Conn. –Greenwich won the District 1 championship in the 11u Cal Ripken Baseball tournament In a dramatic fashion Wednesday night. Ryan Perez hit a walk-off two-run home run in the bottom of the 6th to give the host a 3-2 victory over Norwalk.

With the win, Greenwich moves on to Connecticut State Tournament from July 16 to July 23 in Danbury. Norwalk will move on as well. 

The game was extremely well played, featuring great pitching, sharp defense and clutch hitting, according to the Old Greenwich-Riverside Community Center. 

The Greenwich All Star team is led by Coach Ben Jones, Coach Brian Leidich, and Manager Joel Perez. The team includes: Trey Begasse, Javier Serra, Wyatt Gibson, Daniel Fox, Tyler Cusimano, Robert Rota, Nathan Jones, Caden Leidich, James Wallgum, John Freeman, Ben Jones, James Babb, Thomas Healey, Ryan Perez and Riley Redahan. 

The Old Greenwich-Riverside Community Center promotes a sense of community by providing recreational athletic, educational and social programs.
