Greens Farms Rallies to Top Hopkins

WESTPORT, Conn. – Greens Farms Academy overcame a 10-point first-half deficit to defeat Hopkins, 54-44, in a Fairchester Athletic Association game Wednesday at Greens Farms. Sean Obi scored 13 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to lead the Dragons (7-3 overall, 5-3 league). Hopkins slipped to 3-8 overall and 1-4 in the league.

Hopkins took an early lead with its three-point shooting before Greens Farms tightened its perimeter defense. Even with Obi on the bench with foul trouble in the first half, Greens Farms trimmed the lead to 32-30 at halftime. “To erase their first-half lead and momentum, with Obi on the bench, and a ninth-grader [Zach Baines] and a seventh-grader [Tremont Waters] being a big part of our rally, really had our guys revved up for the second half,’’ coach Doug Scott said.

Greens Farms received contributions from a number of players. Baines, from Stamford, finished with eight points and 10 rebounds. Waters had nine points and 10 rebounds, while Hunter Eggers of Greenwich added eight rebounds, 10 points and seven assists. Greenwich’s Matt Tate had six points, 10 assists, 10 rebounds and four steals. It was the fifth time this season Tate has reached double figures in assists.
