Greens Farms Boys Win 8th Straight

WESTPORT, Conn. – Greens Farms Academy’s boys basketball team tied a school record with its eighth straight win, 63-61, Monday over Masters of Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. Patrick Ryan of Darien blocked a potential game-tying basket at the buzzer for the Dragons (11-3 overall, 8-3 Fairchester Athletic Association).

Sean Obi of Greenwich scored 21 points and grabbed 25 rebounds for Greens Farms, while Ryan scored 15 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Matt Tate of Greenwich scored six points and dished out six assists. Zach Baines of Stamford had seven points and 14 rebounds, while Tremont Waters had seven points, six assists and six steals.

Greens Farms led 25-24 at halftime in a game that was tight throughout. Ryan hit 9-of-10 from the foul line and had a hand in helping contain Masters’ Greg Brathwaite, who scored 22 points. Brathwaite is the conference’s leading scorer. Waters also played well at point guard, committing just three turnovers against Masters’ relentless pressure. The seventh-grader played the whole way due to an injury to starter Hunter Eggers.

The victory sets up a showdown Wednesday at Greens Farms against Hamden Hall, the conference leader and the top-ranked private school in New England. Greens Farms is second in the league and ranked No. 3 in New England. Tipoff is 6 p.m. in Westport.
