The son of a 1962 Fairfield alumnus, Schlickmann has spent the past seven years as director of athletics at Central Connecticut State University. He has held senior-level positions at Stony Brook and Yale universities.

“Paul’s vision for Fairfield University Athletics combined with his accomplishments as an athletic director and administrator at the Division I level impressed the whole search committee and myself,” said University President Mark Nemec.

At Fairfield, Schlickmann will oversee 20 varsity sports and 450 student-athletes.

The West Hartford resident follows longtime Director of Athletics Gene Doris, who will transition to a special advisor to the president role until the end of the calendar year.
