Bocklet is one of several players from Fairfield County and Westchester County in New York, who will be seeking to bring home championships this weekend. For the Bocklets, titles have been commonplace over the past few years.
Casey Bocklet, who played in high school at John Jay, won an NCAA title with Northwestern in 2012, and then transferred to Virginia. Her brother, Matt, won a national championship while playing at Johns Hopkins. Another brother, Chris, played for the Virginia team that won the national title in 2011.
She has 34 goals in 20 games this year for the Cavaliers, including two in a 10-9 win over North Carolina in the semifinals. Greenwich’s Maddy Keeshan also scored a pair in the win over North Carolina. Keehsan has 32 goals. Both women have started all 20 games for UVA.
Virginia meets Syracuse in the semifinals on Friday at 5 p.m. Maryland meets Northwestern in the other semifinal at 7:30. The championship is Sunday at 8:30 p.m. Towson, Md., is hosting the women’s semifinals and finals.
Lauren Murray, a sophomore from Cross River and John Jay High School, and New Canaan’s Caroline Lizzio, a sophomore, play at Northwestern. There are no area players on Maryland and Syracuse.
In the Division III women’s lacrosse semifinals, Kerry Bretti of Katonah and Fox Lane plays for SUNY Cortland, which meets Trinity in Saturday’s semifinals at Gettysburg, Pa. Amherst meets Salisbury of Maryland in the other semifinal.
Amherst’s roster includes Heath Cockrell, a junior from Darien, and Meghan McDonough, a sophomore from New Canaan who played at Rye Country Day. There are not any area players for Trinity or Salisbury.
