Competitors this year will have the choice of competing in either 1,000-meter sprints or in a full 2,000-meter race.
Rowers can select from 35 events, segmented by age and boat type (single, double, quad, four, and eight), and race as often as they want.
This marks the second year of the regatta. In 2013, alumni of Boston University, Brown, Cambridge, Columbia, Dartmouth, Duke, Georgetown, Northeastern, Oxford, Princeton, the U.S. Military Academy, Wisconsin, Williams, Yale, and New Zealand's University of Otago all participated.
"We're offering an expanded, two-day format this year," Sydney Williams, the event's organizer, said in a statement. "Competitors arrive on Saturday, April 26, prepare their boats for racing, and, later that afternoon and evening, attend a celebratory reception. Racing takes place on Sunday, April 27, and now includes the full 2,000-meter sprint distance."
To qualify as alumni, competitors in team boats must have attended the same academic school. Although participants will mostly represent college alumni teams, Alumni Sprints welcomes individuals who wish to represent alumni teams of secondary schools. All alumni can compete, whether long-experienced or new to the sport.
Rowers must register for the regatta at http://www.alumnisprints.org. There is a flat rate entry fee of $125.
