The USA Diving Spring Regional Championship was held in Troy, N.Y., this last weekend with 172 divers. They competed for the top six spots in each event to qualify for the East National Championship, which will be held at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville from April 9 to 11.
Divers from area teams captured 12 gold medals with four divers earning two gold medals each.
Caroline Sculti and James Hopper of Marlins Diving earned gold medals in both the 11-and-under 1-meter and 3-meter competitions. Whirlwind Diving's Justin Sodokoff earned gold in the 12-13 events, and Elizabeth Fitzpatrick captured gold in both 14-15 events. Whirlwind Diving won the meet easily with 296 points overall. All four divers tied for the high point award.
Whirlwind Diving is coached by Joe Somma, Allison Coleman and Sergey Meshcherskiy.
