Defending Champs Knocked Out In Norwalk Softball

NORWALK, Conn. – There’s going to be new champion in Norwalk recreational softball this fall.

Defending champion DJK Fuel, which won the title last year under the Marinello’s Pizza banner, lost Tuesday in the losers’ bracket semifinals to East Coast Irrigation, 16-12. DJK Fuel, which has been a city power since the mid-1980s, finished 17-1 during the regular season and rolled to first- and second-half championships in the Tuesday Night League.

The Wildcats nipped The Aces, 22-21, in the winners’ bracket final Tuesday. East Coast Irrigation, which also defeated Smitty’s Softball, 23-13, Tuesday, will play The Aces in the losers’ bracket final at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. The Wildcats will play winner of the game between East Coast and The Aces in the championship round beginning at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. East Coast or The Aces will need to beat The Wildcats twice to win the city title.

All three teams still alive in the tournament play in the Friday Night League. The Aces won the regular season title with a 14-4 mark. The Wildcats were 13-5 and East Coast went 12-6.

The Mimi Lawrence Wood Bat championship will be determined Wednesday night. Partner’s Café has advanced to the championship round and will play the winner of a game between O’Neill’s Pub and Ninjas. The co-ed championship also will be played Wednesday. Slaterock has advanced to the championship round. The Swingers and Team Chaos will meet in the losers’ bracket final.
