Whitby School Sambas Into Spring at Gala

Greenwich’s Whitby School raised funds, honored devoted parents and celebrated its one-year anniversary as an International Baccalaureate world school with a Brazilian-themed gala, “Samba Into Spring!”

The gala, held April 16, raised money for math and science curriculum enrichment, faculty professional development and a state-of-the-art student information system.

Longtime Whitby School parents and Greenwich residents Jim and Pam Chapman were honored with the school’s 2011 Service Recognition Award for their dedication to Whitby by volunteering and serving on the board and finance committee.

The event was co-chaired by Whitby parents Melinda Andrade and Susan Geraci and attended by nearly 400 Greenwich-area people. Whitby parent Mike Richter, a Hockey Hall of Famer and former New York Ranger, was the master of ceremonies.

Building on the evening’s “Samba into Spring!” theme, Stamford’s Italian Center was transformed into an exotic Brazilian milieu. An auction featured unique items, including an exclusive getaway on an Africa safari and VIP tickets for a live broadcast of “Dancing with the Stars.”
